Idol-type Mapping: Character

All of the translations linked here are my own work. Please DO NOT re-post or screenshot my work without permission.

The Idol-type mappings illustrate where each of the 11 main idols stand in terms of Character, Looks, and Songs. Each map includes side notes which I've translated. You can find these maps on pages 150 and 151 of the 5th Anniversary Book.

Character

First, let’s focus on the idols’ personality as internal characteristics. According to the map, it’s clear that there are quite a lot of “stubborn” types. To put it in a different way, “stubbornness” describes someone with strong preferences and the tendency to stick to their own way of thinking. There’s also quite a lot of “calm” types. Here, the idols are sorted out with emphasis on factors such as calm behavior and whether or not they favor a theoretical way of thinking. As a result, the idols with cooler colors are set as being “calm."

Tip #1: There is a big connection between personality and everyday roles

Among the 11 idols, Ai (who calmly makes analyses based on facts) and Syo (who finds balance while listening to everyone’s opinions) might be considered the most neutral. Furthermore, the most flexible characters like Reiji and Ren share big brother-like characteristics, and if you divide everyone up in terms of sempai-kouhai, they are also both the oldest in their respective groups.Looking from a viewpoint of age, pairs who share the same age—Otoya and Syo, Masato and Tokiya, Natsuki and Ren) also have a tendency to get along well with each other.**

Translator’s Notes and Thoughts:

On the surface, Camus doesn’t seem like the “flexible” type, but while playing the games I’ve noticed that, while he seems very set in his ways by how he verbally responds to criticism, in terms of behavior he does adjust pretty quickly. Take into account how, as a foreigner, he came to Japan and then learned PERFECT Japanese in order to adapt, even using formal Japanese when in the public eye. If I remember it correctly, there is also a part in Debut when Cecil chastises Camus about eating sweets after brushing his teeth at night because he’ll get cavities. Despite telling Cecil to mind his business, the next day he stopped doing it.

As for the color associations, while it’s apparent that the more “calm” characters tend to have cooler colors (Tokiya, Masato, Ai, Camus), Ren and Ranmaru actually have very warm colors even though they fall towards the same end of the spectrum. The reason for this will probably be clearer once I translate the mapping notes for Looks and Songs.

**I wasn’t quite sure how to translate the last sentence, but I took into account that Masa and Tokiya get along so well, and so does Syo and Otoya in some cases. Ren’s personality tends to clash with everyone but Natsuki’s (and sometimes Otoya?), and when it comes to Natsuki’s cooking, Ren is the most supportive, although it’s not quite clear whether he actually likes Natsuki’s food sometimes or if he’s just the best at hiding that he doesn’t like it.
