Kurusu Syo Q&A Session

All of the translations linked here are my own work. Please DO NOT re-post or screenshot my work without permission.

Each of the 11 idols have a Q&A page adjacent to their solo interview page. There are 15 questions about private life and hypothetical situations, and the questions are the same for all characters.

Syo's Q&A can be found on page 101 of the 5th Anniversary Book.

Q1 What about you has changed compared to yourself from long ago?
I think my heart and body have gotten a super power-up! My patience has gotten stronger too. I’m surrounded by individualistic people so I’ve been twisted and trained that way, haha.

Q2 What is considered a precious possession to you?
The DVDs of series that Hyuga-sensei performed in! I can remember the lines word-for-word because I’ve watched them all so many times. That’s how much I respect him.

Q3 About how many hours of sleep do you get on average?
8 hours on average, but I want 9! But when I have work I can’t really say that, huh. On my days off I end up sleeping too much. A well-slept child is a well-kept child!

Q4 What animal would you have as a pet?
I’d love a big dog. We could exercise together! One that’s smart and kind would be good. I’d enjoy having fun with them everyday!

Q5 What physical feature do you like about yourself?
My hands! I’ve always painted my nails black. When my nails are done I get pumped up. And I feel like having cool hands boosts male attractiveness.

Q6 If you could use a time machine, would you travel to the past or the future?
The future, hands down! Of course it makes me curious. I wanna see how civilization will advance! Just thinking about it is exciting. It seems full of dreams.

Q7 If you could do something else for just one day, what would it be?
I’d like to try some fashion-related work. My dad’s a stylist so that probably has something to do with it. It seems tough but worthwhile.

Q8 What do you often spend time doing while you’re waiting around?
I often chat with co-stars. Especially when I’m talking with my friends at the agency, I get really worked up. I’ll laugh too much and then I end up feeling exhausted. (bitter laugh)

Q9 If you were an animal, what would you be?
A lion! Visually, maybe we’re kinda different, but when it comes to feelings it's definitely me for sure! I really do admire strength.

Q10 What have you been into lately?
I collect fashion items that I use as disguise while walking out in public. Hats of course, and then things like scarves and glasses that are just for show. I choose ones that don’t stand out too much.

Q11 What’s your favorite amusement park ride?
I like anything, I guess. Just being in an amusement park is really fun. After becoming an idol, I haven’t really been able to go, but it’s a place I like.

Q12 What item of stress-relief do you like?
Hot milk! When I drink it when I’m tired or before I go to bed, I feel super relieved. Putting a little sugar in it probably helps. It’s super delicious.

Q13 What place would you currently like to try visiting?
Nagoya. Lately since I haven’t been able to visit my parents’ house I feel like I should go see them. And it seems like it would be interesting to walk around a nostalgic area.

Q14 What does work mean to you?
I do my absolute best! It’s simply that. It never hurts to do something well, but I want to place more importance on the feelings behind it. It’s important for the heart to be conveyed.

Q15 What do fans mean to you?
They’re my allies that I reach for dreams with together! To the fans who’ve created a space for me to sing, I can’t express in words how grateful I am. Thank you!

Translator's Notes and Thoughts:

Syo uses the word すげー (an informal way of saying 'sugoi') a lot so I chose "super" as an equivalent because it sounds like something he would say instead of "really" to add emphasis to something. I think my favorite answer was about his hands--he's definitely knows about the allure of attractive hands! ☆

5th Anniversary Special Message Part 2

All of the translations linked here are my own work. Please DO NOT re-post or screenshot my work without permission.

spmsg2

The comments from the voice actors of the 11 idols of Uta no Prince-sama can be found on pages 280 through 283 of the 5th Anniversary Book. I've separated the comments into two parts; Part 2 includes the cast of QUARTET NIGHT. You can read Part 1 here.

Morikubo Showtaro as Kotobuki Reiji

"Since I joined in the middle of everything, this is just the 3rd year that I’ve been allowed to take part in the series, but I was quite surprised by the enthusiasm felt when the UtaPri series was launched and its great influential power. Since the cast is full of people I’m close with, I was hoping for an appearance…so when it was determined that I’d join UtaPri as sempai Kotobuki Reiji, I was really happy. Actually, I was considerably nervous about entering this world created by the original seven members, but I remember even now how relieved I was to be received by everyone. Since I’ve been in three games as well as the anime, I can boldly declare myself as “UtaPri Family” now I think, haha. Please continue to support both Kotobuki Reiji and Morikubo Showtaro!"

Suzuki Tatsuhisa as Kurosaki Ranmaru

"Since I heard so much from everywhere around me about UtaPri’s popularity, when I was offered a role, I was happy from the bottom of my heart. I consider it an honor for Kurosaki Ranmaru to have been created from step one by the entire team, from the producer to the staff. We four who play the sempais joined in the middle of the series, but while respecting the other seven members, there is this sense of, “Let’s lead them somewhere.” I really love this UtaPri team blessed with friends who motivate each other while having that kind of imbalance. The sense of balance between shortcuts and challenges in UtaPri is wonderful, and I want to continue to transmit more of the things I can do as Ranmaru."

Aoi Shouta as Mikaze Ai

"In the beginning when I was first cast to be in the series, I felt a lot of pressure. But I’m so happy to be here as “Mikaze Ai” and to be accepted by everyone. As two people both having to start from somewhere—me having no experience as a voice actor at the time, and Ai having to understand many emotions—there’s a lot of things that overlap between us. Because of that, I want to work with all of my might in order to make Ai shine. Up to now I’ve walked with Ai as a team, but from now I’d like to grow while taking a bit of the lead. I want to continue being the one walking together with Ai, and become worthy as a member of UtaPri. I’ll do my best, so I’d be happy for you to continue supporting me!"

Maeno Tomoaki as Camus

"I joined in the middle of UtaPri, but up to this point I have been granted the chance to challenge myself with various things. From this series alone, having matured a lot in the large amount of content it has, as well as receiving so much support from everyone, I feel a comfortable amount of pressure. But, of all things, I think that the determination that we as performers have to pour our feelings into the characters and firmly protect their image, to feel that vividly both on stage and off, is an amazing thing. It’s the collection of content known as, "Uta no Prince-sama,” in which I know that the cast loves the series and its characters with all of their hearts, and so from now I want to continue my performance without letting my love for the series burn out. While keeping these feelings and my passion burning, I want us all to unite and continue to keep challenging ourselves!"

Translator's Thoughts and Notes:

I didn't have any significant hardships while translating the last four comments. I really liked Morikubo-san's comments (he's my favorite UtaPri voice actor) and I really loved Aoi Shouta's message as well since I knew that this was really a breakout role for him! I'm so glad that the seiyuu all enjoy voicing these characters. I wish there could have been a special comment from Yusa Kouji (Ryuya-sensei) and Nakamura Yuichi (Ringo-sensei) as well!☆

Aijima Cecil Q&A Session

All of the translations linked here are my own work. Please DO NOT re-post or screenshot my work without permission.

Each of the 11 idols have a Q&A page adjacent to their solo interview page. There are 15 questions about private life and hypothetical situations, and the questions are the same for all characters.

Cecil's Q&A can be found on page 107 of the 5th Anniversary Book.

Q1 What about you has changed compared to yourself from long ago?
I’ve gotten good at Japanese! I’m also able to write Japanese with ease. Now I can remember various Kanji.

Q2 What is considered a precious possession to you?
My Japanese goods. Things like shuriken (throwing knives or stars) or ohitsu (a wooden container for cooked rice), what I’ve collected on my own as well as received from other people are important treasures to me.

Q3 About how many hours of sleep do you get on average?
I’ve never been aware of how much I sleep. When I’m sleepy, I sleep. When it’s okay to not get up for work, I sleep as much as I like.

Q4 What animal would you have as a pet?
In Agnopolis, I have a black panther that I received from my father, named Luu*. When Luu was small, we spent a lot of time together and became very close.

Q5 What physical feature do you like about yourself?
My green eyes. I like the color. When light hits them, you can see a slightly different shade. I also like them for my eyesight!

Q6 If you could use a time machine, would you travel to the past or the future?
The future would be good. Looking at history I would be able to imagine what the past was like back then, but you cannot do that with the future. I’m really interested.

Q7 If you could do something else for just one day, what would it be?
A ninja! After I played a ninja on stage, I became more and more fascinated with them. They’re very cool and fantastic!

Q8 What do you often spend time doing while you’re waiting around?
I often study Japanese. There’s more than enough to keep me busy, like looking up the meanings of difficult words in my script and writing down the pronunciation*.

Q9 If you were an animal, what would you be?
A black cat, I suppose. I have a close familiarity with it myself. I have many things in common with them, like the enjoyment of basking in the sun.

Q10 What have you been into lately?
Recently I’ve really been hooked on rice balls! Before that, I made a lot of kappa-maki**. The harmony between rice and nori is the best!

Q11 What’s your favorite amusement park ride?
I like rides that everyone can ride together. It’s a little lonely riding by oneself. I like rides that give me the sensation of floating in the sky.

Q12 What item of stress-relief do you like?
When I’m really tired, I really prefer sitting in a bath with rose petals floating in it. In Agnopolis, it has a purifying and healing effect.

Q13 What place would you currently like to try visiting?
I’d like a to visit a place with changing seasons, much like the four seasons of Japan***. Agnopolis is a country where it is summer all-year round, so having seasons is refreshing.

Q14 What does work mean to you?
I want to lift people’s spirits. Through my activities as an idol, I hope to grant them happiness.

Q15 What do fans mean to you?
They are people with whom I can share a soul. They understand the heart without saying anything and just by being there. That won’t change even if we are separated. Because our hearts are one.

Translator's Notes and Thoughts:

Cecil's Q&A was a breeze to translate. I just had to leave a lot of notes for this one because Cecil uses a few Japanese words that don't really have English equivalents. I love his careful way of speaking Japanese because it's easy to understand and break down the sentences. It's definitely not as difficult as Ranmaru's or Camus'. My favorite thing is that Cecil has a pet panther, which is incredibly cool. ☆

*I'm not sure about the English spelling of his panther's name. In Japanese it's written ルー (ruu).

**'kappa-maki' is strips of cucumbers wrapped in nori, a seaweed laver that is used for foods like rice balls and sushi rolls.

***Japanese people describe their country as having four seasons, and I've met some who speak of it as though it's a unique feature of their country. While that's not necessarily true, I can say from experience that much of Japan (the main island specifically) has weather that is much more consistent temperature-wise compared to where I'm from.
