Idol Voice Analysis Part 2

All of the translations linked here are my own work. Please DO NOT re-post or screenshot my work without permission.

The idol voice analysis, titled "Idols' Vocal Appeal" in the book, is a scientific evaluation of the eleven idols' singing voices using the songs "RAINBOW☆DREAM" and "QUARTET★NIGHT" as samples. Each character's voice is illustrated in their own frequency graph and a brief description is included.

I've separated the analysis into three parts, by page. Part 2 includes the analyses for Tokiya, Ren, Syo, and Cecil, as well as the summary. The Idol Voice Analysis can be found on pages 259 to 261 of the 5th Anniversary Book.

Tokiya
He has a vocal in which the overtones are exceedingly few, the breath components are many, and ultimately consonant sound output is strong. Because the t and s sounds in “Tsugi no,” “stage,” and “promise” exceedingly stand out, it gives the impression of freshness. And a sexiness is also expressed. Furthermore, since English is a language made up of consonant sounds, when he sings English lyrics they’re made to resonate beautifully.

(Chart notes: Overall there are many breath components, consonant sounds come out strong; the places where overtones can be seen are few)

Ren
Since his voice has both a strong low tones and lots of breath components, a sexy and masculine charm comes out on the surface. Particularly, the places where he utilizes the skill of changing the phoneme of one musical interval from high to low and vocalizing it was impressive. This kind of technique and breathing strength is necessary in rock and jazz, so you can feel the elements of those genres as well.

(Chart notes: Overall consonant sounds are strong, but low range sounds also come out strong; low range overtones and breath components are strengthened)

Syo
His is a clear voice especially rich in vocal chord vibration and overtones. An ability to arrange what he is given in his own way can be indicated from his not always being faithful to the melody. It’s a glowing, energetic voice with frequencies shifting upward around 3000-5000Hz. In the song it plays a mischievous and spicy role.

(Chart notes: Overtones are distributed over a wide range)

Cecil
A tone rich in medium to high frequencies can be seen. Since overtones come out up to 12,000Hz, one can get a soft, stringed instrument-like impression. From this frequency distribution, one can also read a gorgeous image. Furthermore, since he also doesn’t sing faithfully to the melody, it can be thought that a free, flying feeling is exhibited.

(Chart notes: Overtones strongly seen in the mid to high range)

Summary: 7-person Harmony

After analyzing these seven singing voices, I was surprised that despite the scattered personalities, all of the voices in the unison parts were in perfect harmony. Looking at the chart, the overtones are grouped evenly in the frequency drawing. Each personality is gathered, and becomes an almighty sound.

Translator's Notes:

It's been a few weeks since I translated Part 1 of this analysis, so I had to re-learn a few vocabulary words. I found Syo's analysis to be the most interesting, since I personally don't consider him to be the "best" singer. I'm not surprised at all at the use of the word "sexy" to describe Tokiya's and Ren's voices ;)
